Kachinas

I'm trying to come up with a narrative that I can use with the kachinas that I have been drawing of late. I would like to create a short story with simple phrases like Maurice Sendak's Wild Things and then do some illustrations. I am thinking I will paint them.
Ouch not a comfortable perch...

I have enjoyed the motivation that these blogs have provided to draw again. I realize that one of the things I need (besides to put in the time honing my skills) is to develop a style...

I have never concentrated on working enough at one thing to develop a style (at least not a good one, lol)...

On a side note. I recently acquired a tool for speech to text conversion which is super cool. I am using it to convert the pages that I posted before into editable text. And I am starting to think I want to get the story published, layout and all.

In my search for ways to stay busy creatively even if it is not profitable (financially) I remembered talking with a friend of a friend named G about a book he hand wrote. I assumed this book would be a badly scrawled illegible mess of incomprehensible drivel (didn't know the guy at the time) and gave some off the cuff advice about how to get his book typeset... well I decided to get in touch with the guy and offer to do the typesetting myself in addition to anything else that would help him with his project... so he brought me a copy of his manuscript... below is a scanned page from it... and below that is my S.A.D. of G

There are 750 hand written pages just like this... I was blown away that the writing is artistic in itself (although a bit hard to read because it's cramped). I would really like to see it published as it is but I think the readability is a real issue. The book would probably spawn a whole generation of enlightened folks... with migraines!

I had already come to the conclusion that the book would not be drivel before I decided to offer real assistance (had some very satisfying (like eating meat and potatoes) conversations with G by then).

This sketch doesn't look much like him to be truthful but then I never have tried to draw likenesses... or at least that is my excuse for being terrible at portraits, Ha!

almost hit a skunk on my drive two nights ago... last night there was a dead skunk in the middle of the same road... I wonder if it was the same one. I've been eating donuts every night at a convenience store on my route... Death by donut

Had to add a new animal to the RoadKillCandidateList

In case you were thinking (as I was) that Brokebot could only be drawn from one angle I thought I would put things in a new perspective... and no that is not Brokebot's middle finger, technically it would be the second from the pinky side or third from the thumb side, unless you don't count the thumb as a finger in which case then we would not have a middle finger.

I am hereto forward going to do a Graphic-Design-A-Day as well so that I can move forward on my business projects with the same regularity that I am my more creative but less lucrative (thus far) sketchadays.

I am going to have to procrastinate this one but I plan to have at least one postcard designed tomorrow either for my mowing business or my marketing business or for freelance work...
I want to call them ChillBot and BreakBot. B-BoyBot would have been better but I didn't think of it 'til it was done... snif
I have had the recent privilege of spending every other weekend with my daughters Jasmine and Chelsea thanks to the very expensive assistance of lawyers... but have discovered that I am a little bit intimidated by the task of knowing what to do with them... i just discovered that jasmine 13 does not call me daddy anymore but dad and also does not want to hold my hand...snif... Chelsea 8 at least still wants to be carried.

I want to create something with them like a story or comic or the like that will get us doing something creative together... I fear that I might be too late to rescue Jasmine from being a fuddy duddy but I will try nonetheless.

I have also just discovered Thom Glick Illustrator and apparently storyteller. More inspiration for me! yay! He does a sketch a day but is narrating a story as well... good idea!

Thom Glick Blog
My SAD sketch is of a ceramic skull I made...interesting to note the improvement in the single day lol or maybe it's just I am completely unfamiliar with guns... or that I was not in the mood for sketching when I did the gun... or should have warmed up because truth to be told SAD sketch is a second draft ... nothing much creative going on today other than that... worked a double at my favorite job ever in the world... the olive garden... I did decide that adding a bit of color to the background of the sketch would look better on the blog... Hate that white block even ended up having to do the same for my RoadKillCandidateCount

sketch-a-day...

Been wanting to do something to get my creativity flowing so I decided to do a sketch-a-day. There are many artists who do this and they are very inspiring so... it is late and I didn't want to procrastinate my first sketch (as i am prone to do) this one sucks but I'm sure as I go i'll get my feet back under me so to speak...

I might do gun related stuff for a minute just to practice for the showdown animation I want to do maybe some action figures too... figures in action maybe i WILL sketch some toys...

Script for Broken Robot Showdown

Shot of both participants in the street. Perhaps circling to reveal both from the point of veiw of the other. shot stops on protagonist. then quickly zooms in.

Protagonist: "At the count of seven you'll be dead."

Close up of curious look of Antagonist as A says

Antagonist: "Seven?"

Close up of P's mouth.

P: "That's right."

Moment of silence and stillness then P grabs for and pulls an arrow A pulls out and hastily shoots two shots with a six shooter. one kicks up dirt at P's feet and P makes a quick sideways step and turns as second shot whizzes by.

With each shot P yells: "one" then "two"

A grits teeth and cocks gun again as P quickly fits arrow into bow. P falls into a squat something like a runners starting position as shot 3 shoots through hat.

Shot now from behind A as P yells "three" and charges right and forward drawing back bow and releasing arrow which flies near A's head but misses as A dodges and badly misses with fourth shot.

P yells "four" and grabs for another arrow

A is now hunched holding gun with both hands. A cocks and fires again as A does a spin move left and forward. Slow motion shot of P in mid spin as the shot hits the bow which flies apart.

P: " five."

P is only a few feet away and hurls piece of bow at A (piece flies over A's right shoulder at camera) as he closes the distance P dodges and fires at point blank range hitting A in the stomach. P falls to one knee at A's feet. A is now breathing heavily.
Shot from under P as he removes his blood-stained hand from side. Shot of A's face looking smug. Shot from behind both as A cocks back the hammer with the barrel at P's head.

Shot from A POV. P looks up till barrel is pointing at his forehead a pause and then A pulls the trigger and the hammer falls on an empty chamber.

P grins then mouths "seven"

close up of still grinning A's face as his face fills with fear then a sudden change to gritting pain then a slow relaxation with eyes rolling up and mouth falling slack to reveal arrow shaft vertically through interior of mouth. camera pulls back to reveal P now standing holding A up with left while right has now jammed the arrow up under A's neck through his head and the arrowhead is holding A's hat off his head.

P releases A who crumples to the ground like marionette with cut strings.

In the Realms of the Unreal

I am fascinated by Henry Darger. Here is a man who created an entire world without any need for an audience...

While running my newspaper route I have been noticing various and sundry road kill candidates and decided I would track how many of each I see each night... which reminded me of Henry Darger. Of course he did it with the weather amoung other things. Henry will be my inspiration to be more creative!

Professional blog...

Just a test blog to see how this blog site works. I have been blogging via myspace for a couple years now but thought I might use this for my professional blogs...

Anyway here is a version of a car wrap I did for Soleus Massage Johnson City, TN...

I created this version of the photograph because I am creating a portfolio page on my webpage and I didn't care for the background (the building belonging to the place where I was working at the time which looks like a brick and siding barn... this is Tennessee but seriously). The website will be found at www.advermarketingresource.com when it is completed but since my experience with websites is limited and I am relying on my college digital media buddies there is no telling when it will be complete. In addition I plan to upgrade my broken robot studio website but you are probably already looking at the upgraded version.

Well there you go for the first blog entry though it may never see the reader one.
